This provides the chance for students to enjoy reading outside of their required English courses. This novel is one that students would love... they just don't know that it's possible to love reading yet! Dear Martin stretches beyond the American Literary Canon stories typically studied in schools and discusses relevant, real life issues that students can understand, empathize, and discuss on a completely different level than the classic texts from nearly 100 years ago.
