Our school is a high-poverty urban middle school with 98.8% Latino students, 1400 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Most students are highly motivated to do well and some struggle. I welcome my students daily and I create a fun and engaging learning math environment. Some students are really afraid of math and I want to make sure that they feel comfortable learning and asking questions not only during class but before and after school. I have placed the students in collaborative groups and each student has a specific role within the group. We have a lot of clubs after school and sports. I volunteer for a club called Math Circle with UCI where we take our students to the UCI campus for team problem solving and math enrichment once a week for 23 weeks. I also coach volleyball. I also became a Teacher Effectiveness coach which puts me in the unique opportunity to work with teachers from my school and two other schools.
