My students will serve as a pioneering group from both their school and their community in Downtown San Diego. This year, our high school has formed its inaugural FIRST Robotics team, the Griffins. The team's efforts are being supported by a full-year robotics course, which this grant's tools and equipment will support. This course is preparing The Griffins to compete at the FTC level of FIRST Robotics, an international competition platform for robotics students. To prepare, the students are spending the first quarter developing core skills, including but not limited to Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Java coding, safety training, technical writing, and presentation. During the second and third quarters, students will work diligently (busiest time of the robotics year) to compete at the FTC level in at all four (San Diego) regional competition and possibly at one international competition in Houston (likely in April). Following competition season, students will spend the last quarter of the course completing outreach projects, reflecting on the year, and planning for the following year.
