"The Giver" is a well known and widely taught novel in middle school. In our school it is a 7th grade right of passage. We use the book to teach students about the importance of their differences in a time in their lives when they are trying everything to hide them. These books will be used for many years by countless number of students! Books offer windows into different worlds and allow students to draw meaningful connections to their own world. If you have ever gotten lost in a good book you know the power of printed words.
