I work in a NYC public school in Ridgewood, Queens. My classroom is a diverse setting where students with disabilities learn alongside and collaboratively with their non-disabled peers. It is a first grade classroom with students who range from 5-7 years old. I am a special educator who works with a general educator. Our students have a wide range of disability classifications, but are always encouraged to strive beyond what they may perceive as limitations. Together my teaching partner and I share a common goal to create a sense of community within the classroom where children thrive socially, personally, and academically.
