Each school year, the students increase their participation by 10% using and learning their second language. As bilingual students they need to increase their reading abilities and vocabulary knowledge in their first language to increase their level of reading comprehension in both languages Spanish and English. Daily reading practice and the use of language are needed tremendously. Daily practice using a wide range of books on instructional reading level are needed. The need of short novels and nonfiction books is evident to increase the reading abilities of my students in this grade level. Guided reading will be the key of their improvement.
