Reading instruction is arguably the most important part of learning in the kindergarten-2nd primary grades. Research shows that one of the best ways to help young children in those grades become successful and fluent readers is modeling fluent reading and having comprehensive discussions during shared story read-alouds combined with explicit phonemic awareness instruction when they are in the primary grades of school. My kindergarten students already love books and story time so much! It’s one of their favorite parts of the day! Unfortunately, the rug we use for our story time is too small for my class to all sit comfortably on it. Helping get a new carpet for my class will enhance one of the most important instructional parts of our day.
