My students are under a lot of pressure to do well on standardized tests regarding Math, English, and Science. As is the case with many schools, we are forced to spend most, if not all, our classroom time on instruction in these areas only. Nurturing the creative, artistic side of these young minds have been pushed to the side. Art instruction has just about disappeared. There is no money available for art supplies, even simple water color paints and cheap synthetic brushes. My students have shown how excited they are when I give them even 10 minutes of class time to draw. They are begging to let their creative sides out! Every year, I have my students make hand made books that require handmade papers and foam boards which I usually purchase on my own. I am hoping that I can get some help with acquiring these supplies. In addition, having watercolors and paintbrushes will allow my students the chance to do various projects such as self-portraits, Picasso-like paintings, etc.
