Students learn best and generalize skills to different environments if they apply skills in different modalities. I am working to teach phonics in a fun and engaging way, with lots of games and hands-on activities. We are using multiple modalities so that students acquire and generalize their skills. These supplies will improve my teaching by holding students’ interests and allowing them to learn in different ways. When I moved from middle school special education to K, 1, 2 special education, the classroom I moved into was completely empty of teaching materials. I am now charged with creating learning resources that my students will enjoy using. They like to be hands-on and engage with manipulatives and concrete materials daily. I would like to provide lots of enrichment and experiences to enable skill generalization. The laminator is used to create many of the resources that kids can utilize while learning specific skills and then can be reused as the next group increases their skills across academic content areas.
