Although there are a lot of positives to attending a charter school, there are some drawbacks. One drawback is the lack of financial freedom. So much of our money is allocated to operational expenses (eg. construction, utilities, water, contracts, etc. ) that essential classroom supplies are often overlooked. We rely mainly on parent and community donations to provide supplies, with our own packets as our safety net. It's hard to buy a full class set of calculators when expected to use our own money. We have a few, but there are many students that go without because there are not enough to go around. Calculators are an essential part of 8th grade math mastery. These calculators are approved for use on the End of Grade Exam, and schools with more access have a 1:1 ratio of calculators to students. We want to be able to give our students the same access to resources as students in other schools. We believe that solving the calculator deficiency issue will put us on the path to greatness.
