All of the students I work with come my way because they are lacking skills socially, emotionally, and/or behaviorally. These skill deficits can have significant impact, not only on their academic performance, but also on peer relationships and their self-esteem and self-concept. Counseling helps students build positive feelings towards self and others, develop social skills, cope with changes in their life, recognize the causes and effects of their actions, and begin to become responsible for their behavior. These goals can be reached in a variety of ways, however, children learn best when they are engaged and having fun. When kids feel better, they do better! Therapy games help kids to talk about difficult subjects, take risks to practice new skills, and allow for structured positive peer interaction, without the pressure of being expected to just sit and talk. There are so many new games out there that focus on major areas of concern for my students such as impulse control, empathy, anger, self-esteem, and grief, as well as strategies to help them with these challenges: mindfulness, CBT, coping skills, and conflict resolution strategies. Please help me expand my small collection of games to keep my kids engaged with a variety of games to increase their social, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
