Since our inception a year and a half ago, the Attica Roleplaying Games Club has built an environment of collaborative learning among students that foregrounds creative problem solving, basic mathematics and literacy skills, social development, and improvisational storytelling. We launched after a group of five students approached me in the weeks heading up to spring break on our academic calendar. Soon, the club had 20 students and was meeting as three smaller groups after school on three different days for two hours each time. When we started, we wanted to make sure that the club could remain free to any student that wanted to join. We were able to cobble together enough free materials, materials donated by myself and another teacher, and prior knowledge from the Pathfinder Game System to get started and have a great first few months before that academic year came to a close. An exciting opportunity presented itself last year, when Paizo, the company behind Pathfinder, launched their Second Edition Playtest concurrently with the start of our 2018-19 academic year. Our club was able to playtest the first new incarnation of the game system in 10 years for free and provide feedback to the publishers via their data collection surveys. Pathfinder Second Edition will be launching in full on August 1st, just in time for the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year. I hope to secure enough materials that the club can continue to run the game system it had an active hand in developing. These materials would allow us to continue to keep the Attica RPG Club free of charge to students. Running the new edition of Pathfinder will continue the excitement from last year's playtest and allow our students to see the journey of this project from draft, through editing, to final publication.
