Learning environments can have a direct impact on student achievement. My students feel empowered when having control over their environment. Children need to move. Flexible seating increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. It also keeps young minds more alert and focused. From the experiences in my classroom, an uncomfortable student is a distracted and unproductive student. Flexible seating will encourage my students to find the best spot to stay calm, focused, and productive. This opportunity will allow my students to quickly and easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class without moving mountains of heavy desks. Providing flexible seating for my second graders will create a fair, fun, relaxed, and engaging classroom.
