Students in my class spend the better part of our day sitting on the carpet. They work together in small groups and with partners. Having a new and clean carpet would help students focus on learning rather than pulling on the strings of the current old carpet. They enjoy sitting on the floor with their classmates to engage in their lesson-math, reading, science, Leader In Me, social-emotional learning, and best of all, when they choose to lay on the floor for independent reading. Students learn and help each other, often knee to knee with a partner to build upon their own learning. A new carpet would give students a place to call their own, a place they could choose to use during lessons and during free choice time. The carpet is the central learning spot in our classroom. It is always being used by the whole class or just a few students at a time. The entire class and the classes to come in the future would benefit from a new carpet!
