As a first year teacher, I have quickly learned that employing evidence-based instructional strategies have supported my students' learning well, but not well enough. I have the opportunity to still better meet their learning needs in my classroom. By donating to my project, my students will be provided with seating options that support their attention and focus needs, and activities that will support their social-emotional learning. They will have the opportunity to not only choose the best tool for success at their desk, but they will also have the chance to further develop their own emotions and social skills to increase their ability to self-regulate. Research shows that by providing students with opportunities for social-emotional learning, they become more aware of their own emotions and are better able to manage them. By also providing my students with the chance to choose the best avenue for their learning, they will have an opportunity for success. With strong classroom management, research shows that students who struggle with attention and focus or are uncomfortable just sitting for a long period of time can become more on task with flexible seating options. The chance for choice will also support my students in developing responsibility over themselves and their own learning.
