Reading helps children understand the structure of written language, and expand their knowledge of words for better communication. A leveled book collection is a large set of books organized in levels of difficulty from easy books with just a few words for a beginning reader to longer, complex books for advanced readers. Leveled reading books help a child become a more independent reader while choosing a variety of different books that offer just the right level of support. It is important to give children a variety of books to choose from so each child is given an equal opportunity to read books that they not only enjoy, but that also benefits each literacy need. If this project is funded, each child in my class will be able to have access to a large variety of leveled reading books that they can read at school or at home. These books will help them become better readers and writers, and enhance vocabulary in early literacy.
