Hurricane Harvey took my classroom library of 6 years along with thousands of dollars of teaching material and supplies. This did not stop the students or myself from being happy and excited about coming to school and learning everyday! We made it work even though we had those 4 grey walls and not in a Pinterest inspired classroom. First and most importantly, I would love to rebuild my classroom library. I had sets of chapter books that my third graders enjoyed reading during our DEAR time. Our classroom library is limited this year and the kids have gone through many books and eagerly await when I purchase new ones! I want to keep their love for reading! I would also like to see my students reading not only with books but with technology in the classroom. As we know, technology plays a big role in kids lives everyday and I would love to bring Chromebook's into my classroom to practice the skills they need to be successful. Many of our kids struggle with reading comprehension and fluency and I feel if I was able to bring technology for reading, my students could get into programs such as Accelerated Reader, research during our genius hour and station time. Please help bring our young minds this type of technology for math and science applications as well. We would be so appreciative as most students don’t own any technology at home.
