This is an all-boys residential facility supporting boys with emotional disabilities. They love to learn but their past traumatic experiences often impact their ability to cope with stress, frustration, challenging tasks, or simply being told "no." In addition to learning academics, we learn ways to cope with obstacles that are thrown our way. Child-initiated calmer provides just enough pressure to help calm students down when in crisis. They often look to self-harm but with weighted blankets and this calmer pod, students will hopefully be able to calm down quicker and chose coping strategies. These will support all students in the building as we all look for different ways to cope with these difficulties. In addition to emotional disabilities, many students also have one or more learning disabilities. These learning disabilities often include reading difficulties in the areas of decoding and comprehension. We have found that listening to reading (audiobook & books to follow along) support those difficulties. We currently have two radio/audio players but only 1 CD audiobook.
