Middle school students face so many different challenges throughout their day at school and within their homes. As a new counselor, I am working to build an environment that will welcome the students in and be conducive to their social/emotional well-being. If they are able to sit on a couch, versus industrial tables and chairs, it may be that added factor to help them open up and talk about their feelings. The school is filled with tables and hard chairs, the counseling room can be an escape to a more relaxed space that will be more conducive to healing and support.
