Many flexible seating options stimulate students' sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with ADHD and ADD. Learning environments have shown to have a direct impact on student achievement. Why do I want flexible seating? 1. It offers choice. When students feel they have choices they are often more engaged. 2. Provides physical health. Children need to move. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused and physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior. 3. Flexible seating is more comfortable, and I feel flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. 4. Sensory Input - I have several students this year with sensory issue. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information. Sensory input is especially helpful for students with ADHD, ADD. 5. Flexible seating is fun. I desire to have a fun classroom that also supports the needs of my students and encourages their success. I have been blessed to teach the special education inclusion class which means I have several students with ADHD, ADD, sensory, inattentiveness, and severe anxiety and some need to be moving all the time in a positive way that is least distracting. My goal is to have flexible seating for all my students to provide them with a learning environment to increase student achievement.
