One of my main jobs as a Kindergarten teacher is to establish a love of reading within my students. Students are much more likely to love reading if they have choice from a wide variety of books on their reading level. They also need to see books about a wide variety of cultures and characters, and even books in their home language. "We need diverse books because they are mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors." -Rudine Sims Bishop. Books can be mirrors that allow children to see themselves and their own experiences. They can be windows to open students' eyes to other lives and cultures. They can also be sliding glass doors to allow them to enter into another world altogether. This project will allow my students to learn compassion for others that are different from themselves while also learning to love reading through books on their perfect level.
