Traditional desks in rows isolate students from each other. Flexible seating allows students to easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class. Colorful stools, high backed chairs, and ball chairs will pair nicely with tables already in our 6th grade classroom. By purchasing seating I am able to use resources already available to make the current learning environment more inviting and engaging for students. Currently, my students are working in one piece desks. These desks are bulky and uncomfortable when working in a group setting. Changing the seating in my Math and Science classes will allow for students to move freely while working on Math and Science projects, enabling the use of cooperative learning. Also, the change in seating will free up much needed space for movement in this over crowded room.
