Both classes will be creating an in-class habitat for our hermit crabs. We have the aquariums and food, we just need the substrate for the crabs to burrow into. This will be the third year that we have used hermit crabs in conjunction with our Sandy Beach Unit and believe me, they are well loved. Do you remember a time when your teacher had a real animal in the classroom? Well there is nothing like it. We provide many opportunities for our students to observe hermit crab behavior and log their observations. When our unit is complete, our students will be sharing their knowledge of not only hermit crabs but other animals that live on and in the sandy beaches of California.
