I believe in creating an environment that feels safe, respectful, kind, and motivating. Children are naturally curious and inspired to learn each day, but also enjoy having a sense of choice. I believe in providing flexible seating options for them in order for them to build self-awareness and self-regulation. My classroom does have several flexible seating options, but all that I've purchased with my own money. I believe having a couch in my classroom would engage and excite these third graders. A lot of the seating I have currently needs repair and isn't keeping up since a lot of it was from garage sales. The kids in my class deserve to feel excited about learning and connected to others in our classroom. Having a could in our would also provide a safe spot for a child to go to if they are feeling anxious, sad, or unsure of themselves. As a teacher it would be nice to be able to sit next to a student to put them at ease rather than standing beside them. Kids would be able to gather and work through math problems together or simply read a good book together. There are so educational options that could go from good to great by having other seating options.
