Not everyone loves to read. Most people can learn to love it if they are exposed to literature that is not the "same old boring" books that students associate with school. This is especially true in British Literature, the English class required of high school seniors. British Literature does not have to only be Chaucer, Shakespeare, and Dickens; there are fabulous contemporary novels written by British authors that our students never get to see because we don't have them available. The classics have value, of course,​ they do, but not all students will engage with the classics. My goal is to reach as many students as I can in a meaningful way. I would like to begin building a library of class sets containing more contemporary British novels that touch on some of the themes, and history of Great Britain, but in a more relate-able way than classic British Literature does. If a student can't get past the cover or the first page, then the battle is lost. I don't want to lose the battle before I have even started.
