One of the biggest struggles for kindergarten students when moving on to first grade is learning all of their sight words. These are words that students have to recognize automatically instead of "sounding out", because they do not follow phonetic rules. For example, the word "you" does not follow the sounding-it-out method that we teach our students to use when reading. SnapWords Sight Word cards add a colorful picture and a movement with each sight word to help students remember these words. Picasso tiles are a favorite of my kiddos! They are constantly having to share the set we have, which only has 24 tiles. They have been begging for a new set, and I would love to be able to let them build the towers and buildings that their little minds come up with, without being limited to just a few tiles at a time.
