Adding "Portable CD Player Devices" to our library that students can borrow and take home will enable students who no longer have a CD "BoomBox" computer with a CD/MP3 Disc Drive, or a vehicle with a CD player, to have equal access to checkout and listen to our 200+ collection of engaging middle grade, teen, and young adult audiobooks! Almost all of these have been donated to our school over the last 2 years, by a generous audiobook-loving family! Lots of the middle school students are intrigued by the prospect of being able to READ an entire novel, just by listening with their ears! But many tell me the only CD player they have nowadays is in their parents' cars - and most of these teens have commented that either their parents won't let them listen to an audiobook in the car for long enough stretches of time to finish them, or that their parents think listening to a book, instead of reading it, is "cheating!" I believe that if more of my teen patrons had access to a small, portable CD player with earbuds, they would quickly learn to love listening to audiobooks while they walked. Please, help us get 10 Portable CD players, batteries, and earbuds, so I can get more of my teens exploring and enjoying reading through their ears!
