I met a machinist who lamented that he knew many engineers who had never touched a wrench. The first year I worked with high students in an engineering class, they insisted on calling the ratchet wrench the "chtch, chtch" (onomatopoeia). Being a part of a FRC team offers students the opportunity to design and build a real robot for a real competition. They scrape their knuckles and see how things work. And we are currently making it work by scrounging and borrowing. But having a set of quality team tools would add to the club's sense of ownership and accountability.
