Our school has acquired a new language arts program (ConnectED through McGraw-Hill). This program is engaging and effective, but it is most effective if delivered online as it is designed to be. It also allows students more flexibility and self-pacing, and it allows teachers greater capacity to differentiate instruction and meet individual needs than the textbook version does. In addition to the ConnectEd classes, I teach electives classes that require students to write, and do research, using a computer. To fully prepare students in these classes for college, they need to have access to things like the electronic version of the MLA and APA handbook, and online databases. It is vital that I have classroom computers to meet the needs of all my students, and ensure that they receive a quality education that will allow them to succeed after high school.
