When I was young I absolutely adored having my favorite books read to me time and time again by my parents. The students in my class don't get these opportunities at home because most of their homes don't have books. My students' favorite time of the day is fluency time when I'm reading stories to them. They are eager to They get lost in each new story I read to them. I love watching them fall in love with a good book! I have watched them go from just enjoying books to wanting to write their own. Then they share them with classmates and parents. It's truly amazing to witness their love of literacy unfold. In order to keep their love of learning ignited, my students write their own stories on class iPads. However, we no longer have a printer to print them with. After their books are published from our in class printer we will have classroom book talks where students can share their stories they've published for feedback. The students will also be reviewing literary skills (characters, setting, identifying the problem in the story, main idea) with their very own books in hand.
