As I try to expand my classroom library, I'm making a conscious effort to provide a variety of texts for my student-readers. This includes having diverse genres, diverse authors, and diverse characters. To generate my book list, I asked students to give suggestions , and I also looked at book lists and professional recommendations. Students need books that allow them to better see the world and to better see themselves. If we wan't students to grow as individuals, we must provide them with opportunities to grow. I believe books will provide multiple opportunities for multiple students. These resources will be used for independent reading and, hopefully, in literature circles as well. These resources will benefit many, many students.
