Most of my direct instruction with students happens while we are sitting together as a group. I sit on a low chair and my students sit around me in a cluster on the floor. We begin the day with a morning meeting where we greet each other, share important events in our lives, encourage each other and offer empathetic comments or questions. We then move on to begin direct instruction. I love the close community that is created when I have my students on the floor around me. It is friendly, personal, and easy for them to share with a partner or participate in discussions. This beautiful, cheerful rug will provide each student with the security of a specific spot to sit on the floor. It will also provide the flexibility of quickly rearranging seating as needed. We will have the ability to have rows, groups or a circle depending on which arrangement best supports the lesson. Having a bright, new, clean place for us to gather will bring joy to all of us!
