The board games I am selecting are games my students love to play. I currently supply the games from my personal collection, but through minimal fault of the students, wear and tear happens. This group has been super successful, and the kids love the ability to play against their teacher (and beat him more often than he wants to admit). I teach students multiple games, and many of those students end up taking over rule teaching duty to newcomers. We end up with on average 12 to 15 kids, but we have a rotation of 25+ students. These games force kids to cooperate for a common goal, strategize options, plan long term, get creative, tell stories, and just all around be silly. I am currently game master of a Dungeons & Dragons campaign for 8 students. Talk about interpersonal communication, planning, and creative story telling! In the meantime, students have been able to show others how to play these wonderful games. We work through poor sportsmanship and help build resiliency to failure. No board flipping allowed here. I realize this is not an academic request, but the soft skills of life are just as important and have an impact on their classroom behavior and beyond. The hope is that eventually with enough club games I can start loaning these games out to students so they can play and connect with their families. Thank you in advance!
