Makerspaces help students GROW! According to Jennie Kroeger with the FSU College of Education, "Creativity in class structure promotes innovative thinking in your students; When you put a spotlight on project-based learning – which is common in STEM – you provide opportunities for authentic growth and development." These materials will be used when the students have Makerspace time. The materials will be out in front of them, and they will be asked to plan, design, and make. Look at these materials and imagine what YOU would create! I want to give my students that same freedom. LEGOs make for an awesome Makerspace activity because as soon as students see them, they start imagining what they want to create. Makerspaces help students to learn innovation, creativity, problem-solving, the scientific method, and even healthy habits like organization and sharing! Makerspaces also give students time to be kid; to delve into their imagination, while simultaneously learning! Play-doh is a simple way for kids to work on conceptualize ideas and be creative! I plan to have structured classroom projects with these items as well, like creating roller coasters and bridges! Aluminum foil, duct tape and Popsicle sticks make for some AWESOME roller coasters!
