These books will help me sow the seed of a lifetime love for learning in both Spanish and English for my wonderful and diverse students! An example of how I will use the book La Tortilla Corredora is by reading the book as a class and rewarding each student with a flour tortilla with butter at the end of the project. We will collect apples from our school’s apple tree after reading Johnny Appleseed. A few years ago, my students saved our school’s apple tree which was slated to be taken down for school expansion by writing letters to our Principal and Superintendent after reading Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. Students love to be able to translate what they read to real life experiences and community action. These books will teach real life lessons to my amazing students.
