New sixth grade science standards were adopted statewide last year. Because of this, our class needs new science reading book collections to help our sixth grade readers increase their depth of knowledge. Science trade books are an integral part of learning our new sixth grade curriculum. The books will be used in small reading groups during our Language Arts instruction to create cross curriculum learning. Small groups using leveled books are beneficial to meeting individual student needs. I have seen students become engaged in discussions in their small groups when they have quality books that keep them interested in science.
