The materials we are requesting will make a huge difference in our classroom by allowing my students to make smart choices and deciding what kind of space contributes to their learning best. Flexible seating encourages students to not only be responsible for their learning, but also comfortable in a space that allows their bilingual brains to RUN. Comfort plays a huge rule in student motivation. I have selected a variety of materials to get flexible seating going in my classroom for the sole purpose of giving my diverse group of students a handful of work space options. Differentiation is everything in education, and we can all agree that every student learns in their own unique way. I believe flexible seating is a wonderful way to give students an opportunity to find what suits them best. The wobble stools and yoga balls will be a great addition to our classroom, as they allow students to wiggle and bounce while sitting at a table or at their desk. The stools and yoga balls are lightweight and can easily be carried around by students if needed. My students are familiar with this flexible seating option because they use them in their English class, and we'd love to have them in our Spanish class as well! I think it's important to keep options consistent. Evidence and data shows our kids have been successful with flexible seating in their English class, and I have no doubt it will be the same in our Spanish class. I want to offer different learning options and comfort for the kids who need it. Additional seating options I have chosen for my students are lap desks and floor cushions. I chose these two items based on student demand, they love working closer to the ground - makes it cozier!
