I teach amazing special needs students who lack abilities in one or more areas of functional development. They require specialized instructional strategies in a structured environment that supports and enhances their learning potential. My hope is to create an environment that is tailored to their distinctive abilities. My School is a Title I school that educates children with severe cognitive and social impairments, including autism and children with emotional disturbances. We are a warm, friendly school community that has a wide variety of enrichment creative programs to enhance our multitude of academic programs. We are diving into a newly implemented curriculum that enhances focus on students essential living skills. My goal is to create an environment that meets the needs of the students so they have a chance to thrive despite their disabilities becoming independent young adults. Being a middle school special education teacher is so rewarding in so many ways. My students are early and emergent learners whose mixed skills require real-world learning opportunities. The materials I have requested will help better develop my students social, emotional and communication abilities. As well as academical achievement. My students benefit from a structured, hands-on, organized and comfortable classroom. I firmly believe that the population of students I work with are unique in their own way. As a special education teacher, I have learned that there is never one way to meet students needs. My hope for September is for my students feel at home in my classroom and feel they have all the resources they need to reach achievement.
