The most important thing I can instill in my students is a unquenchable thirst for learning and a love to read! World History is an extremely fun class, but can be made more meaningful and personal through the use of literature. I would love to give my students the opportunity to extend their content knowledge and improve personal literacy with texts that amplify voices from all over the world. I plan to utilize Things Fall Apart, All Quiet on the Western Front and Red Scarf Girl and other novels to illustrate key themes and experiences in the human narrative as we journey through the modern period. My students crave personal connections to the content they learn and would also greatly benefit from improving individual literacy.
