New soccer goals will promote a sense of pride for the team as they represent their school. The current goals are outdated, non-regulation size and most importantly unsafe! Because we are an older school (1955 and remodeled in 1999), we don't have the new equipment like the schools whom we will be competing with. Our students recognize the inequity and often question why they don't have the same as the other schools. The current goals are 4ft x 6ft made of galvanized metal. Not only is it too small, it is unsafe. Fortunately, we have yet to have a student hit their head on the goal, but it is vey likely and would be devastating to see a child get injured due to these outdated goals. Having new soccer goals will bring excitement to the team and will also help build their self esteem. A positive self-esteem feeds into the classroom. Our sports program at Cook promotes student athlete, student coming first. Being a sixth grade teacher, I have seen the positive benefits of my student athletes. They are more likely to show leadership within the classroom, and they recognize the benefits of teamwork as they work collaboratively in group settings. Not only have I seen the benefits within my room, but our upper grade teachers often comment on how their students have improved academically and socially because of the students participating in our after-school sports program. As we run onto the field representing The Cook Crusaders, it is my goal to give my students the best tools needed to be successful and that's why we need GOALS!
