My students' ability cannot be based on their ages. They function much lower, 3 or 5 grade levels below their ages. The only way they can learn is through sensory activities, because of their impairments. They only get interested in whatever we are doing in class if I present the lessons with hands-on materials. They only get interested and hold their attention if the activities are concrete to appeal to their senses. My students need colorful, familiar objects to act as counters like the bears to learn counting, magnetic letters that they can touch and manipulate to learn the alphabet, and wood and plastic animals to learn their names and their habitats. Since my class is a new class in our school (2nd ALE class), the school does not have enough resources for my class. I have to share with the other class, which does not work most of the time since we use them at the same time. I can only imagine how having our own resources and materials in our class will improve my students' academic achievement, since we won't have to waste so much time just waiting for the resources to be available for us to use.
