One of the projects my students will be working on is creating a 22nd mission. We have been studying the 21 California missions in our social studies lesson. With this project students will gain more knowledge about the mission period of California by engaging in tasks that require collaboration and critical thinking. They will be placed in a scenario in 1818 asking them to recommend a location for a new mission. They will work in teams to choose a site, create a design, make maps, and present their proposals to the class. They will use their Chromebooks to research information, collaborate on-line, create maps and timelines, and design proposals for their project. Having access to technology in the classroom is crucial not only for this particular project, but for many others that we will be participating in throughout the year.
