These single desks will be used to replace the large, bulky, long tables in my classroom. These desks will allow more flexible seating for my students. As the teacher, I will be able to rearrange my room more easily and efficiently to accommodate students with preferential seating, behavior issues, and other needs. I have always dreamt of having desks that I can circle up for a literature unit where all of the students can see each other while they engage in discussion. Students also crave a change of scenery throughout the year. By having smaller and easier-to-move furniture, I can create more unique seating patterns for the students at the end of each marking period. I have found that something as simple as this can reset them completely and give them a feeling of having a fresh start. This has been impossible with the tables I have now. Especially with the COVID-19 pandemic, singular desks seem more manageable, safer, and beneficial to my students. I work in a district where the student's families are low-income/high poverty. Our district budget is just as poor. Our teachers can barely even get the simplest resources they need to be successful without having to spend their own money. These desks would mean so much to me and my students because we know that without your help, there is no other way to obtain them.
