When working with young, wiggly Pre-K students, flexible seating can be extremely helpful. Depending on how they feel throughout the day, offering alternative seating such as lap desks can help them focus and accomplish tasks at hand. Alternative seating would give my students a choice and ownership of where they sit while meeting their needs. Sometimes during group activities children seemingly act out. This leads to the whole group losing focus whether or not the child is just fidgety or suffers from ADHD, learning grinds to a halt. The rockers, wobbly cushions, and stools will also allow students to get their wiggles out while participating in whole group activities on the rug. All are lightweight and easy for the students to move around so they can use them during independent work time, small groups, centers and whole group. I have seen how these seats positively affect students behavior, and I hope that my students will get to use this adaptive learning aid in the classroom!
