1 in 5 Oklahomans are functionally illiterate. If comprehensive reading instruction is taught by the third grade than 90% of at-risk children can overcome their reading difficulties. These resources have been proven to show significant growth in all areas of reading skill. Struggling readers are able to achieve and maintain better decoding, word recognition, reading fluency, reading comprehension and spelling. The components include reading, spelling, comprehension, phonological processing, morphology and handwriting. These lessons are an Orton Gillingham Approach to reading instruction that helps struggling readers. They are evidence based lessons to help struggling readers with multi-sensory language deficits. Reading is rocket science!
