I want my students to have the option for flexible seating if they choose. I think this group of kiddos would benefit from it more than any other group of students I've ever taught. I usually will find my students standing at their desk, squatting on their desk chairs, or sitting on their knees on their desk chair, all while working independently. It is obvious that a standard desk chair is uncomfortable for them and causes them to lose focus. They are wiggly and need to change their position often when they sit. Flexible seating will allow them to choose a special seating option during certain times of the day (centers, partner/group activities, independent work time), and that alone is so exciting for them! The flexible seating option are different colors of wobble chairs. I think if my students have a seat where they can rock, wiggle, and bounce a little; I will not find myself redirecting their focus as much. I truly believe it will help them to work hard, undistracted!
