There is a strong correlation between speech and language skills and literacy. Integrating literature into therapy is a great way to focus on each of my student's unique speech and language goals. The benefits of incorporating literature into speech and language sessions are endless! There is a great deal of evidence to support the effectiveness of using literature to support speech and language learning. I will use these books with my students to address a wide range of skills including expanding word knowledge, answering wh-questions, sequencing, cause and effect, compare and contrast, articulating more clearly, using fluency strategies, developing phonics, stating the main idea and details, perspective taking, grammar and sentence structure, and much more!
