All students deserve to have a sense of choice in their learning. Their entire academic career is centralized around standards and structured curriculum. Instruction needs to be lead away from teacher control and turned in the direction of student control. By offering students to option of flexible seating in the classroom, they are given a chance to have choice and independence in their learning. Research shows that if students are given the option to have a variety of seating options in the classroom it will benefit them by creating choice, building a classroom community, and fostering collaboration. Students will also be encouraged to move throughout the day and they will feel comfortable in their classroom. On my list you will find that I have asked for wobble seats, exercise balls, and wobble chairs. This allows students to have the opportunity to bounce, wobble, or rock. This movement will increase oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. This helps students stay alert and focused.
