Last year, as a first year teacher, I had flexible seating in my classroom. My students loved it and it really helped them focus on their school work. It was such a success! This year I am teaching a different grade level with a group of kiddos who have a much different dynamic. Knowing how outgoing and energetic this group was, we started off the year sitting in regular classroom chairs. Since we are set in our classroom rules and routines, students have been introduced to the flexible seating arrangement! YAY! I was able to use some of the seating I have left over from last year, but because I previously taught a younger grade level, most of my seating is too small for my fifth graders. I need to re-supply my classroom with seating that will cater to THIS groups learning needs, just like I was able to do last year. Some examples of seating that will help my energetic students are floor desks, a tall table they can stand at, and, of course, yoga balls! All of my students are unique and so are their individual needs. Flexible seating will help me meet any and all of my students needs.
