I work with approximately 10 groups of elementary students each day with each group consisting of 2-4 students. Inevitably, each time I travel around school collecting my new group, one student always asks, "what game are we playing today?" Having choices of games and activities that encourage conversation, laughter, and lots of practice, my students eagerly anticipate their speech therapy sessions. I am sure that my students will absolutely love playing games like "5 Second Rule Jr.", "Yeti in My Spaghetti", and "Brain Freeze!" Your donations of motivating games will help keep my speech students excited about practice, which promotes success with learning individualized communication skills. Most speech therapy sessions are about 30 minutes long and consist of small groups of students who are all working on different skills. I can individualize opportunities for practice and differentiate teaching while maintaining attention and engagement using a single game in each group. By providing my preschool 5th grade students with opportunities to engage while playing games, they are learning valuable life lessons ranging from turn-taking, word play, the value of practice, and impulse control. Playing games also provides my students with opportunities to practice communication skills, such as using and combining words, following directions, describing and defining, producing target speech sounds, answering questions, problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking skills.
